Located in Gyeonggi-do, approximately an hour’s drive south of Seoul, you will find the exquisite artistry of Jiseungmin Ceramics from Seungmin Ji and creative director Woorim Jang. Founded in 2014, Jiseungmin Ceramics specialises in ceramic tableware and unique objets d’art that emphasises functionality and beauty for everyday use. Ji Seung-min, showcases works that reinterprets traditional techniques from Korea’s Joseon era (1392-1897), seamlessly blending traditional forms with contemporary elements. The classic silhouettes and lyrical moods metaphorically expresses accumulated senses through the properties of clay by adding the heritage of the times and personal experiences. As you look around the studio, you can sense their strong philosophy and ideals, ensuring the preservation of their technical skills, precision, and quality. They skilfully express texture through their unique glazes and techniques. By interpreting and reconstructing classical elements from their own perspective, they constantly refine their creations while staying attuned to the trends of the times, resulting in practical and refined pieces that are familiar to use. Object works are also a very important area, and in addition to adhering to the traditional potter’s wheel moulding method, they continue to work on experimental glaze textures, which serve as the source of collection development. The entire collection is crafted within the artist’s studio by Ji Seung-min and his team of professional ceramicists. This allows the artist to maintain the brand’s quality of technique, precision, production and finish.
